Biography

Ernesto Anaya is a veteran musician from Mexico City, who has taken a prominent place among the most prolific and versatile performers in the city. His work includes participation in some of its most recognized ensembles, musical direction in major films, compositions, and musical arrangements. Ernesto’s long list of credits include collaborations with such well-known Latin artists as Lila Downs, Astrid Hadad, Shakira, “Los Folkloristas”, Amparo Ochoa, Eugenia León, Omara Portuondo, and many others.

Anaya dares to bring the folkloric and traditional music of his homeland to the concert hall, the jazz club, and to the cinema, experimenting with instrumentations, styles, voices, and arrangements. Of course, he also presents traditional settings employing, violin, guitar, guitarron, huapanguera, vihuela and other folkloric instruments. He plays more than 30 instruments and is a virtuoso on the violin, mastering the huapango of the Huasteca region, as well as the falsetto style of singing. He can present a variety of thematic programs including “El Canto de la Revolucion Mexicana” (Songs of the Mexican Revolution), “Huapangeando” (Music of La Huasteca), “Los Encantos de Chava Flores” (The Music of Humorist Chava Flores), and “Recorriendo El Son” (Review of the Music of the Son).
